Our Story

The Yellow Door began life as a fine dining restaurant in Gilford, Co.Down in 1992. Due to demand for a more informal food offering the Yellow Door Deli opened in Portadown in 1997. The restaurant was later sold to Barry Smyth. Over the years the deli and bakery business has expanded, giving rise to other delis and a busy wedding, event and corporate catering business.

We have a great team, and lots of family! Simon Dougan runs the deli in Portadown and the outside catering business. Andrew (his cousin) runs the catering at Ulster Rugby and Fuelled by Yellow Door at Catalyst. Gary (Andrew’s brother) runs the wholesale side of the business supplying discerning restaurants all over Ireland with daily deliveries of fresh bread and patisserie. Jilly (Simon’s wife) manages the Yellow Door kitchen garden and other growing projects at our outlets and beyond.

It gets a bit manic at times but the thing that unites everyone is a passion for fabulous, locally produced food, and a desire to get the very best out of it. We pledge to do all of that in the most responsible and sustainable way possible.
